James is a Burnaby-born artist focused largely on the watercolour medium. His passion for watercolours began while attending the Commercial Art Program at Capilano College. Many instructors and guest artists of the program were world-class watercolour artists who encouraged him to further develop his practice with this unique medium.

He is now focused full-time on fine art, having had solo shows and participating in countless group shows. His works have been awarded first place in a number of Federation of Canadian Artist exhibitions.
James is best known for his highly detailed and meticulously executed watercolours created in the studio. He is also a frequent practitioner of plein air painting and the more spontaneous and impressionistic approach it demands.
