David works primarily in soft pastel and focuses on the Canadian landscape, an endless inspiration. Growing up in the prairies, he feels, makes the senses work a bit harder to uncover the subtler colour relationships latent in the landscape. This is evident throughout his vast body realistic and abstract landscape works.
Based in Edmonton, AB, he has been an active teacher in various institutions for 20 years. He has an Associate Diploma in Fine Arts from Red Deer College and a BFA from the NSCAD.David’s artwork is part of international collections, and has been commissioned for public works including “Open Road” (Fort Saskatchewan City Hall) as well as the pastel “Glenn’s Canola” for the Kaye Edmonton Clinic.
David’s approach employs a simple step-by-step teaching style that builds students’ confidence, while also remaining open to their own important discoveries that inevitably appear along the journey.
